Having a real Christmas Tree need not mean a
carpet
covered in needles come Christmas Day!
The way to reduce needle drop is to maintain
the freshness and moisture within the tree as much as possible. The following
steps should be carried out to ensure the minimum amount of needle loss:
- Always buy a tree that has been
freshly harvested.
- Keep your tree in a cool, shady place
until you bring it inside.
- Make a straight cut of about 1cm off the
bottom of the trunk before placing in a water holding stand. If a cut tree
is left out of water for more than 4 hours the cut will seal over with sap
and water will not be absorbed.
- Place your tree in a good sturdy stand
that will hold at least 2 litres of water. We recommend the
Cinco stands.
- Check the water level regularly. Never
allow the water level to fall below the stump of the tree.
- Keep netting on while placing in stand
and then remove it from the bottom up.
- Do not place your tree near a source of
heat (radiators, TV, computers, direct sunlight) or in a draught.
- Avoid disturbing the tree once in place.
- Always check your tree lights before
putting them on the tree.
